Nadogo Central College-Opening of a new Government Telecentre in Vanua Levu

Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama opened a government telecentre at Nadogo Central College on 10 September 2013 in Vanua Levu. Through Government Telecentres, the Ministry of Communications provides computers, scanners, web cams and other accessories as well as internet connection for the school. These are also for use for the community after school hours.

While delivering his address, the Prime Minister said “you all know that we’re doing a lot of work to improve the roads up here, and especially the highway between Nabouwalu and Dreketi to provide better access for people and goods across the top of the island.”

“Well this is a highway of another sort but just as important – giving ordinary Fijians  access to the information superhighway and empowering them in a way that previous generations would never have imagined.”

“The Internet is one of the miracles of the modern age. It is opening up new horizons for people across the world. It is providing them with knowledge and skills. And today, it has come to Nadogo.”

He also took the opportunity to hold a Talanoa Session with the community members to listen to their issues as well as distributed hundreds of copies of the 2013 Constitution in the English, iTaukei and Hindi languages. Minister for Communications, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum also accompanied him.
