Sayed-Khaiyum Welcomes Turkish Ambassador

The Acting Prime Minister, Attorney-General and Minister for Industry and Trade, Mr. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, this morning held talks with the Ambassador and Special Representative of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Atilay Ersan – who is currently visiting the country.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji, the Attorney-General welcomed the Turkish Ambassador to the country and said he looked forward to Fiji and the Republic of Turkey forging a closer relationship.

“We discussed our mutual desire to pursue bi-lateral agreements, particularly trade agreements,” the Minister for Industry and Trade said. “His Excellency the Ambassador recognised Fiji’s status as a hub in the South Pacific and together we acknowledged many exciting trade opportunities for both of our nations.”

“His Excellency also discussed his country’s candidacy for the UN Security Council as well as its interest in hosting the Olympics, and was seeking Fiji’s support.”

Earlier today, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the President of Fiji, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
